I got LINKED-IN! Some nice peeps from the block sent me an inviite!!! Check out my profile clicker here:
Now I got my site an RSS feed so you can get the latest security info for me for free!
Going to attempt another bird house erection (haha) tomorrow. Hope all goes well. It looks like one of our servers at the office has been hacked. There's a big SEX.COM popup every time we log on... it doesn't seem to hurt anything but the CPU's are always at 100% now. My MCSE didn't train me for this one!
The IT Director came in today and said he'd had enough and quit. Unbelievable! The company said they are going to try to hire someone from the inside who is in the know. I am bucking for a promotion as I've already been here for six months! Hopefully they will choose wisely and choose me!
The new pole is in for the bird house. It's 75-feet tall (that's 10 meters for your Brits) and 8-inches thick solid iron! It should give us many years of bird-watching pleasure. Coleman Iron Fabrication is responsible for the pole -- great guys and a great price! No website, sorry.
Got a page in the middle of the night. Something was wrong with the disk array on one of the big databases! It turns out that one of the junior admins installed some kind of dialer thing for some porno site on it. I'll have to have him change his password now...
Happy Valentine's Day! Who is your Valentine? I remember all those days I used to spend time in the server room alone playing Freecell while I studied for my MCSE! I am glad to have passed on my first try. It's so great to be smart! I love you HONEY!
Placed the order for the new bird house pole. It'll take about four weeks to fabricate! We're all looking forward to its arrival...
Happy Holidays!
The specs came in for our new servers today. IT Director (Chubba as we call him) has ordered replacements for the servers that I dropped a few weeks back (we're still picking up the pieces on that one). The new load up looks like we're replacing the two quad Xeon and the E450 that I accidentally rolled down the stairs.
The new routers are here! We mounted them up and plugged them in and got a healthy SHOCK! It seems I did a bad wiring job when I grounded the outlets to our server rack. I thought it would work since they are bolted to the floor but it wont since they are on raised tiles. Boy is my face red!
CAD plans for the new bird house pole are complete! We'll be sending it over to Coleman soon. It's a good looking pole and I think it will be much better than the other. Although I think the 100-foot would do better for the birds, the homeowners' association balked at the height so it had to come down.
Disaster again! I accidentally dropped four quad Xeon servers today! One after the other as I was carrying them from the development environment to the live racks. Luckily, each one looked like an accident and I managed to salvage parts from two of them to repair the others. We'll have to replace the two broken ones though. Nobody saw me do it, which is unusual since usually there are four people in the IT room but not today! I stilled owned up to it and told IT Director, though. I am an honest man!
Disaster! The second bird pole came down just hours after we put it up! We were in the living room having snacks when we heard a smashing sound. Looked outside and there it was, the 100-foot bird house pole collapsed across the neighbor's yard! It smashed their trampoline and the their kids' treehouse. The bird house itself ended up in the pool four houses down. Oy!
The new bird house is up! Pictures soon...
Coleman tells us the new bird house pole will arrive the first week of December! We're so excited. Mary has painted the bird-house and it's ready to mount on the pole. It's going to be hard getting the flatbed into our circle, but I think the professionals can manage!
I accidentally broke one of the UPS's today! First I spilled coffee on it (I know, never have an open styrofoam coffee in the server room) and then when I was trying to dry it, I tipped it over and the battery cracked and spilled icky goop all over the joint. I went and got the mop and some paper towels. Luckily, nobody noticed that one of them batteries was missing so I just plugged it back in and all is well!
