I got LINKED-IN! Some nice peeps from the block sent me an inviite!!! Check out my profile clicker here:
Now I got my site an RSS feed so you can get the latest security info for me for free!
Just saw a good thread on the Full Disclosure mailing list about RACE RELATIONS in the workplace! They are arguing about the middle east and of course had to chime in because it's an issue I have personal experience with! Experience that, I think, makes me an authority on it.
I wrote about the Jew and Arab guys that worked at the bank. You can check it out here. I fired them both, but they sure taught me a lesson about friendship!
I didn't write about the Indian and Pakistani guys I knew when I first started working at the bank because it had to do with Israel and Palestine. So, I'll share it with you all here: When I first started at the bank we had a Pakistani guy working for us and an Indian dude. They had cubes next to each other and the printer was between their cubes. They would argue a lot about silly stuff nobody gave a rat's butt about so one day I put a sign up over the printer that said "Kashmir" in big letters. That did not go over well and I almost got fired the day I started!
Still working with the Sun V6800 servers today. My gosh, Sun people are elitist! Just look at what they are saying about me after they so rudely kicked me off of their lists for trying to get some help (look for my post where I, politely, asked "Rescue me from Sun's screw ups!"). I guess it is because they think they are better than everyone else because they get paid for their work (Linux people can't get anyone to pay them because they don't know how the capitalism works and since their GPL thinger is from Soviet Russia this is to be expected). If these Sun servers don't work right, I have to might try that OS Jaguar "X" thing from Apple! I read in EWeek that it comes with an Apache already setup and a fun GUI to configure the networks!
The floor in the server room is weird today! It's still making creaking noises and every step you take, the floor wobbles up and down! One side of one of the 6800's has sunk a bit so I put some phone books under its feet to level it out a wee bit. Next week I am going to call a contractor to come and mudjack the raised floor (I did this to my driveway when the sand underneath washed away when I flooded the garage and it worked wonders!).
The Sun V6800's are here! They are here! They arrived yesterday evening and I stuck around until 2am playing with them! It's pretty cool but the network setup is a bit different than with Windows. I am not a Solaris whiz (yet) but I will be in the next couple of days! I will post some piss ASAP!
The verdict is that they are HUGE! These servers are vastly bigger than in the pictures and I wonder if I should call Sun and complain about false advertising. These are not two or three foot tall towers like they are pictured on the site. These are the size of a whole darn equipment rack! So now we have three of them. I had our guys put them into the server room (they knocked the SAN down doing so and some of the drives fell out, but that's another story) and boy oh boy let me tell you, the floors were creaking when they rolled them in! A few of the tiles over the raised floor broke while we were unloading it but everything is okay. The things are so heavy ther are sort of causing the tiles to flex downward! Oy! Dats a biggie server! But they seem balanced and settled so I think we're okay for now.
The networking is, as I said, a bit different than Windoze boxes. I've had to resort to a mailing list (again!) to get these things running right the way they should and I've come up with a great new way to speed up the network. I am using the RAID5 technology! Here is a hyperlinker to my post for help with this radical, bleeding edge and breaking new idea: http://www.sunmanagers.org/pipermail/sunmanagers/2004-July/031674.html! Well that's all for now! Time for a potty break, LOL!
Well dudes! Some good news and some bad news! The good news is that the new pole for the birdie house will be here next week! It's taken longer and they had to change it from stainless steel to copper but that's fine... 8-inch thick 75-foot copper pole! That will be really pretty to see (copper is pretty, the wifey agrees). The birds will be able to see that better at night, too. We'll be trenching this weekend to make the preparations. We decided to build a small pond for the poll to stand in so I borrowed a bulldozer this last week and started making the hole. First it was going to be by the house, but the foundation cracked a bit when I drove the dozer by, so we moved it back a ways. I ran over the kids' plastic Dumbo pool and their treehouse, but they wont mind! LOL!
The bad news is that the Sun V6800's almost got delivered today! It seems that the truck came by when I was at lunch and the girl who runs the loading dock had to turn them away because there was no room for them. I thought they were only about two feet tall (looking at the pictures) but I guess she said they were in huge crates and stuff! I had been saving boxes of packing peanuts just in case and so there was no room in the storage area. They said they will be back on Monday with the servers so I can clean up all my stuff for these new cool servers!
Also... I just posted to the damn mailing list about some scandalous hackers afoot at the bank! Someone called the bank and made up some lies about your old friend Bill! I don't want to write it all out here so here is a hyperlinker to the article on their web page archive. I am so upset I could fall down!
Hey dudes! Long time no update! Your friend Bill is still here and bustier than ever! Our new Sun servers will be here in two weeks! I am so excited I could just about pee myself! But now... for the BIG news...
My first open source project is here and I am releasing it for all the world to use and see! This is a code I am using at the bank so it is PROVEN and RELIABLE! It's a great new app that is protecting the bank from the hordes of spam we get every day! Introducing...
Greys version 0.7b (b for BILANO not BETA). It is a kick-ass greylisting app for everybody using the terrific Postfix MTA version 2.1 and above! Greylisting is the future of spam prevention. I've totally gotten rid of all my spam content scanners and stuff and use just this and my spam is now zero and there are no false positives anymore. It works "hella slick" as my neighbor says. Click here for the low-down on greylists and what they mean to you!
Download my wonderful program by clicking here: clickie right here to go to greys page
That link will always link you to the -current version! The stable, production version! We also may be starting a mailing list or something for you goons to check out when you need help from other people.
I am about to release my first open source software program! For those that are using the Postfix MTA, I have built a hellified greylist tool that will eliminate the spam plague from your inbox! More on this soon... but it should work great for you as it has totally replaced my billbayes filter!
Somebody has asked for an RSS feed of the bloglog! I will try to put some efforts into that as well this weekend and see what old Bilano can come up with! LOL!
The new bird pole is ordered and is scheduled to be delivered on July 10th! It's another 75-foot pole, 8-inches thick... only this time, it's made of stainless steel! It should not interfere with the neighbors' TV reception like the old ferrite ones did. It should also be stronger and less brittle so when, god forbid, it crashes down it will not shatter into hundreds of chunks.
Also... where is my Orkut invitation? I still want to get in and see my fan club!
Where is my ORKUT INVITE??? LOL! Come on dudes, quit playing around!
Ordered the new Sun hardware today! It should be here sometime in the next few weeks. This should be good stuff. I am continuing to fight the dreaded w32.ssl.b virus and the traffic has not stopped! My god these virusii are persistent... I can't keep my head above water over here. The executives at the bank have called several urgent, top-secret meetings about the virus and what we can do. We don't know if we maybe upset a customer with a returned-check-fee or what, but that's our going theory!
Still no invitation to join ORKUT! What's with your peeps, dudes?
Someone said in my Orkut fanclub that I have a themesong too! Click here to download the file and see what it is like. I can't get my zipper to work so I can't listen to it. Someone check it out and tell me how much it rocks!
Hey dudes! I am on the ORKUT! Well, not me -- but someone gave me a hyperlink with a URL to the Orkut BILANO FAN CLUB! Hey you guys are great! Unfortunately for me, I don't have access to the Orkut yet and I can't seem to find out where to sign up for anything and I understand that it is invite only! OMG!
Can someone out there please invite me to join the Orkut so I can get access to my fan club? I really think Orkut is a great, cool thing! Thanks gang!
In other news, Google told my sysop that I had to remove the Google ads I had displayed by the guestbook! I can't believe how shameless and tactless Google is! They said I was encouraging click-throughs... well DUH! They are banner ads! Anyway... I absolutely refuse to do anything with Google anymore! They are the scourge of the universe in my opinion and I am not budging on that little nugget of truth! I will never, ever go to their site or any of their other sites again and will actively tell others to avoid them!
Well, my meeting with the heads of the company went good. It seems that the win32.ssl.b virus is being blamed on our old webmaster who let the virus into the network in the first place.
Since it is impossible to clean up after a virus like this, the machines are all ruined and I've had to make some serious changes to the infrastructure of the bank! That said, I think I can let you all in on a little secret...
We are replacing all the NT servers with big iron VSPARC servers from SUN! The order has been placed and the serving with commence very, very soon now gents (and gals)!
The CEO at the bank told me today that he wants the OPENBSD and W32.Ssl.B viruses OFF the network at ANY COST! You know what that means, right? Bill's got a BLANK CHECK! I've taken the liberty of rolling in some serious new upgrades for the bank's network facility. We're getting rid of Windows on the web servers!
I have ordered four new loaded Sun Sunfire 6800 webservers! Since Sun runs JAVA in the hardware we are ready to go with our website! It's going to be much better without Micro all over the place! No more viruses is a good thing, dudes! The less Windows the better, I always say.
One thing has me worried, though... Sun calls these webservers "midrange". Dell called our current dual Xeon servers "high-end", so I am nervous. That's why I bought two extra 6800's -- just to make sure all the bases are covered. I also ordered myself a new floppy drive, a 50 pack of floppy disks!
Uh oh! Big trouble going down as it seems that my week has only gotten worse since the OPENBSD virus had taken over the firewall!
I stopped the flow of the new crypto port 443 virus that was attacking the bank's webservers (see my update below about the "Possible crypto virus"). The traffic was still coming in hard and strong through the port 443 so I blocked that port, inbound and outbound, to our entire network! That seemed to have taken care of it. But things only have gotten worse for us...
I am about to head into a meeting. It seems that now none of our customers can access their bank account information! The web servers are totally infected and it just wont let anybody login! They can get to each page on the site but as soon as they click "login" their connection just dies. OGMF! Were are going to totally have to rebuild each web server from scratch and hope the virus doesn't re-infect! I am still seeing all kinds of port 443 attempts being blocked by the firewall.
Also, the people at the office can't seem to access certain parts of some websites. It seems that any site dealing with e-commerce has problems that started as soon as I blocked outbound port 443. The virus must have spread to our entire network. This e-commerce crypto-virus is taking its toll! I can't even order new parts from CDW now!
Possible crypto virus discovered! I have already notified the Full Disclosure mailing list about this new virus I've seen running around the net (check out the thread here)! It is attacking the bank's web servers on a weird port 443. I don't know what it is but it's crazy! I've already named it w32.ssl.b (the B is for BILANO, since I discovered the virus).
On the down side, I had to fire my webmaster! I think he was responsible for the virus on port 443 of the web servers. He was so indignant about it that he was just laughing as he walked out the door of the building with his stuff in a box. What a jerk!
Javascript hackers in my guestbook! GUESTBOOK UNDER SIEGE! I guess I upset somebody with my finding out about their silly port 443 virus! I have disabled javascript on the guessbook for the time being! No more javascript virus!
